Children who are read to often have a better chance of becoming fluent, independent readers. When you are reading to your child:
Take a look at the title and book cover. Ask your child what she/he thinks the story may be about. See if she/he was correct after you finish the story.
Ask questions - Why do you think the character(s) did things? How do you think the character is feeling?
Have your child make predictions - Every so often ask your child what she/he thinks will happen next in the story.
