Montessori math uses concrete materials to represent abstract mathematical concepts. The first primary Montessori math materials work on the understanding of numerals and quantities from 1-10. You can work on these concepts at home:
Count things during everyday tasks. How many spoons do we need on the table for dinner? How many trees did we see on our walk?
Match numerals to quantities of objects. Have your child identify a written numeral, and then have your count out a quantity of items (i.e. small toys, stickers, small food items, etc…) that correspond to that numeral.
