I wanted to reach out and share with you the good in these times of utter sadness and confusion for many.
M has been showing me all the wonderful skills he has learned during his time at PBMS. At first he didn’t really like the idea of a virtual classroom. And I must admit Mommy wasn’t too keen on it either. But we gave it a chance and he looks forward to it now. It’s given him a bit of normalcy in this roller coaster we are all on.
It’s easy to focus on all the negative when you turn on the news or scroll through your Facebook page. It’s also easy to be overcome with fear at the prospect of not having enough income to pay your rent or put food on the table. But what I have chosen to do instead is focus on what I’m most grateful for. And to say that I’m grateful for all of you is an understatement. Having spent the last 3 weeks in quarantine with my son, I can see what a wonderful job each of you is doing and how he is impacted by it.
He tells me stories about Ms. Melva and Ms. Hamdi and how they helped him or told him to stop doing something. He shows me what he has learned from Ms. Wendy and other teachers when we do his “work” together.
He helps put his things away. He sets the table, sorts socks when we do laundry, and reads all kinds of books. He usually leads all the dancing and singing; I’m learning a lot of new songs. He also really loves playing with his cars. And, yes, Mommy has even allowed TV time everyday, since he can’t go outside because of his asthma.
Despite all the changes, M isn’t phased by this in a negative way. Instead he looks for me to spend time with him doing “fun” activities. I want to share one with you all. Google has an awesome 3D animal features and M just loved seeing the animals in his living room. Please see the photos I’m attaching. You can see him hanging out with a horse, talking to a Macaw, being attacked by an alligator, imitating the wolf, hugging a bear, and looking for food with a duck (he was holding ducky on this one but he’s not visible). I hope these brought a smile to your face.
To end, we miss you very much. And while we don’t know what next month or even a few months from now will look like; we hope to see you again and see the joy on the kids' faces when they get to return to school.
Gratefully,
S
